Meeting your individual needs and priorities is our mission at Hearing Solutions of North Georgia and it’s why we take the time to get to know you and your hearing concerns. Our comprehensive hearing evaluations utilize a series of tests to accurately diagnose and treat your symptoms. We’ll always present a variety of solutions and empower our patients to make the treatment choices that best meet their needs.

Before Your First Appointment

A thorough hearing evaluation includes a number of tests to determine your hearing ability, but equally important is the time we spend getting to know you and your needs. When you arrive for your visit, we’ll ask you to complete a new patient form that reviews your medical history, including information about any injuries, trauma, or exposure to loud sounds. Certain medications can also contribute to hearing loss, so it’s essential that we have all of your prescription information on hand.

We encourage patients to bring a loved one with them to their appointment, as it’s helpful to have the support of a friend or family member during this initial visit. Our team values any questions that you might have and we know that it can be helpful to discuss treatment options with someone you love and trust before making a decision.

Hearing Consultation: Reviewing Your Needs

Each patient we see brings a different set of hearing symptoms as well as a specific set of goals that’s unique to their lifestyle. Our professionals will take the time to review your medical history with you as well as determine how hearing loss is affecting your everyday life. We are better able to provide customized solutions for you if we know how you spend your free time and understand your specific hearing needs.

During the Hearing Evaluation

A comprehensive visit at Hearing Solutions of North Georgia typically takes between 30 and 60 minutes and we start by checking the inside of your ears to ensure they are clear and healthy. Any ear wax blockages or abnormalities could be contributing factors to your hearing impairment, so it’s helpful for our professionals to rule out these possibilities before beginning your hearing test.

Hearing Testing

We’re proud to offer our patients the latest technology when it comes to your hearing test. We’ll ask you to put on a pair of specialized headphones and we will play a variety of sounds that range in frequency and volume. By raising your hand each time you hear a sound emitted, it allows us to better understand which tones you are able to clearly hear and which ones you cannot. Since hearing loss presents itself in a variety of ways, this information will paint an overall picture of the best types of treatment for your specific needs.

The hearing evaluation may include any of the following tests:

  • Auditory brainstem response (ABR) testing
  • Tympanometry or acoustic immittance testing
  • Bone conduction testing
  • Air conduction testing
  • Speech testing
  • Distortion product otoacoustic emissions (DPOAE) testing

Reviewing Your Results

After we have completed your comprehensive hearing evaluation, our staff will review your results in detail. We utilize a tool called an audiogram which illustrates your current level of hearing ability. You’ll be able to clearly see and understand which frequencies and volumes are within your hearing range and which ones you may be missing on a day to day basis. Not only will an audiogram help us to establish any patterns, but it will guide us to the treatment options that are most appropriate.

Keep in mind, at Hearing Solutions of North Georgia we value and respect the priorities and needs of each patient we see, so you’ll never be forced into making a decision about your hearing treatment. We’ll review the most appropriate hearing devices for your particular type of hearing loss and we encourage you to ask us any questions you might have.

If you do decide to make a hearing aid purchase, we’ll explore a range of device options, from sleek designs that are equipped with the latest features to ones that are straightforward and budget friendly. Our goal is to make the process of acquiring hearing aids an easy and relaxed one.
